Tool for Selecting Coils for Wireless Power Transfer

Wurth Elektronik now offers developers with a tool—Mix and Match—to help select the right transmitter and receiver coils. Mix and Match is a new tool in the RED EXPERT Toolbox. Also like the other tools in RED EXPERT, Mix and Match shows online accessible product specifications. While some combinations of transmitter and receiver coils work well, some combinations aren’t good matches. Mix and Match helps you find suitable coils for your application.Wurth MixMatch

The free Mix and Match online tool will be expanded as time goes on. In Q4 2016, Wurth is slated to publish data on the resonant circuits of the coil combinations tested.

10-Gb LAN with Power Over Ethernet

Würth Elektronik has expanded its portfolio of Ethernet modules with LAN transformers for speeds of up to 10 Gbps. The new transformers support Power over Ethernet (PoE) up to 100 W and currents up to 1 A per channel. Wurth 749053010

WE-LAN 10G has a bandwidth of up to 500 MHz and thus conforms to the IEEE Standard 802.3 with a bandwidth 3.5× larger than comparable gigabit Ethernet products. Thus, the transformers are well suited for applications involving large data volumes or requiring a swift transmission of data (e.g., the transmission of HD video data). In addition, the extended temperature range makes the modules a good option for industrial applications.

RED EXPERT Online Design Tool for Precise AC Loss Calculation

Würth Elektronik recently published RED EXPERT,  a new online tool you can use to simulate the power inductors. With just a few clicks, you can select the power inductors and calculate the complete AC losses.Wurth-RedExpert

RED EXPERT enables extremely precise loss calculation because it is not based on the known Steinmetz models with sinusoidal excitation. Instead, it is derived and validated from measurements of the power inductors in a switching controller setup.

The losses determined with RED EXPERT are based on current and voltage waveforms typical in applications. Besides the core and winding losses, they also include the losses arising from the specific geometries of the inductance, such as the air gap.

Particular highlights of the RED EXPERT AC loss model are the range of duty cycles supported from 10% to 90% and the switching frequency range of 50 kHz to 5 MHz. This gives the RED EXPERT AC loss model a previously unattained precision.
