Low-Profile 180 W AC-DC Power Supplies Provide 94% Efficiency

XP Power has launched a new range of 180-Watt U-channel AC-DC power supplies that are intended for space-constrained medical (BF), industrial and IT applications. The low-profile devices are just 29.5 mm high and occupy a small 107.6 mm x 62.8 mm footprint, allowing them to be used in high-density designs. The units are suitable for Class I and Class II operation and offer 2 x MOPP (Means of Patient Protection) of isolation while delivering up to 94% efficiency.

The UCP180 series PSUs have an integrated 12 V, 500 mA fan output, eliminating the need for any external driver circuitry. When used in conjunction with a fan delivering 10 CFM airflow, they can deliver 180 W of power to a load – a power density of 14.2 W/in³. They are also suited for use in convection cooled applications where they deliver 120W (9.4 W/in³). The U-channel construction provides a robust housing, an optional cover is available for applications where the unit may be user-accessible.

Suitable for medical (BF) applications, the PSUs are approved to EN60601-1 and offer 2xMOPP of isolation (4kV) and low leakage current (50µA), making them suitable for use in BF applied part applications. Additional approvals including IEC60950-1-1 and IEC62368-1, and EMC performance that meets EN61000-4, make them suitable for a wide range of applications including ITE and industrial.

There are a total of seven variants offering single outputs of 12 V, 15 V, 18 V, 24 V, 28 V, 36 V and 48 V in the series. All devices have a universal input range of 85 to 264VAC and offer up to 94% efficiency while consuming <0.5W with no load. The operating temperature range is -40°C (-20°C for 180W load) to +70°C with no derating required below +50°C in either force cooled or conduction cooled applications.

Low-Cost, Open Frame Power Supplies Provide 40 W and 60 W

XP Power has launched two new series of low-profile, open-frame power supplies addressing the need for low-cost 40 W and 60 W solutions that support a broad range of applications within the medical, domestic/household and ITE/industrial sectors. Most markets are under price pressure these days; the new FCS40 and FCS60 address this need by combining low unit cost with easy integration into multiple end equipment markets with international agency approvals, high efficiency and low emissions. This is further supported by the wide operating temperature (-25°C to +70°C) that allows use in a wide variety of environments.

The new FCS40 and FCS60 supplies offer a single output of either 12 V, 15 V, 18 V, 24 V, 36 V or 48 V at efficiencies up to 86%, model-dependant. An on-board potentiometer allows the voltage to be trimmed by ±10%, optimizing the voltage for specific load requirements or voltage drops. Both the FCS40 and FCS60 carry extensive approvals that ease the task of the designer in obtaining system-level approval for their designs. For medical applications these include IEC/EN/ES60601 offering 2 x Means of Patient Protection (MOPP). The units also include two-line input fuses and offer Class II operation, furthering their suitability for medical applications in the home healthcare environment.

For ITE and industrial applications the supplies are approved to IEC60950-1 and IEC/EN/cUL62368-1 as well as meeting the needs of the Low Voltage Directive (LVD). IEC60335-1 approval makes the FCS40 and FCS60 applicable to domestic & household applications. As part of XP Power’s “Green Power” range, all of the new supplies minimize the no load power consumption to less than 0.3W, facilitating compliance with the latest environmental legislation. The ability to be convection cooled up to +70°C with de-rating removes the need for a fan from many systems, saving energy, cost and weight as well as improving system reliability.

Encapsulated AC-DC Supplies Offer Multiple Mounting Options

CUI’s Power Group has announced the addition of 3 W and 5 W models to its line of low power, encapsulated AC-DC power supplies. Available in board mount, chassis mount, wire lead, and DIN rail configurations, the single output PSK-S3 and PSK-S5B series are housed in compact packages measuring as small as 1.46” x 0.97” x 0.71” (37 mm x 24.5 mm x 18 mm), making them well suited for space-constrained low power ITE, industrial control, automation, and consumer electronics applications. Designed for easy installation, the wire lead PSK-S3-L and PSK-S5B-L series, chassis mount PSK-S3-T and PSK-S5B-T series, and DIN rail mount PSK-S3-DIN and PSK-S5B-DIN series afford engineers additional options for simpler design implementation.

1500 W AD-DC Power Supplies Certified for Medical and ITE

TDK has announced the introduction of the TDK-Lambda 1500 W rated CUS1500M series of AC-DC power supplies. This extends the CUS-M family of products, to now cover 30 W to 1500 W. The CUS1500M has both medical and ITE (Information Technology Equipment) certifications and is ideally suited for industrial, medical, cosmetic laser treatment and analysis equipment requiring less than 300 µA earth leakage current, low audible noise and class B EMI.

The 1500 W additions are available with 12, 15, 24, 36 and 48 V outputs, adjustable from -15/+20% (+15% for the 48 V) of nominal. All models accept an 85 to 265Vac input and can operate at full load in -20oC to +50oC ambient temperatures, derating linearly to 60% load from +50oC to +60oC. High operating efficiencies of up to 88% reduce internal waste heat and component temperatures, resulting in electrolytic capacitor service life predictions of at least ten years.

The CUS1500M measures 127 mm x 63 mm x 261 mm and has a seven-year warranty. Other features include a 5 V, 1 A standby voltage, remote on/off, parallel operation of up to five units, an isolated open collector DC good / fan fail signal and a variable speed fan that produces 45 dBA (typical) at 30°C at 70% load.

To facilitate safe and easy installation, output cable connections are made to screw terminal blocks with covers rather than bus bars. The terminal block can also be quickly configured for either a vertical or horizontal wiring orientation.

The TDK-Lambda CUS1500M models are certified to the safety standards of IEC/ES/CSA/EN 60601-1, IEC/UL/CSA/EN 60950-1 (62368-1 pending), IEC/EN 62477-1 (OVC III), and are CE marked according to the Low Voltage, EMC and RoHS2 Directives.
