VersaLogic Corp. announced an addition to their PCIe/104, the Sabertooth family of embedded computers. They added a version with Intel’s Coffee Lake Refresh i3 processor, in a 3.8” x 3.6” x 1.7” package.
Included on-board is 128GB NVMe SSD storage, Ethernet, TPM 2.0 security, GPIO, and USB ports. There is off-board storage access using a SATA port.
This new Sabertooth version is based on a 9th Gen Intel i3 quad-core processor, which expands on the Xeon-based Sabertooth models.
There is a 3-bank stack-down connector, which widens bandwidth capability with an X16 PCIe Gen 3 bus. This supports peripherals and compute-offload devices such as FPGAs, GPU, and 10 GbE network devices.
High performance is enhanced by 16GB memory and 128GB NVMe storage. Len Crane, VersaLogic’s President said of the system, “In applications that require high amounts of processing at the Edge, the Sabertooth delivers.”
In size and ruggedness, the Sabertooth is a small PC104 format system, measuring 96 x 90 x 43 mm. The performance is high in space-constrained settings. The operating temperature is a healthy industrial level at -40°C to +85°C and the designs and tested levels meet MIL-STD-202H for shock and vibration.
In terms of connectivity, the Sabertooth i3 version has in addition to the x16 PCIe lanes, an expansion connector that supports 4 PCIe x1, USB, and SM Bus. Other connections include SATA III, USB 3.2, Gigabit Ethernet, serial, I2C, GPIO, and a Mini DisplayPort.
