NVIDIA Jetson: The Advanced AI Embedded Systems Platform Driving the Autonomous World

Written by Stephen Vicinanza

NVIDIA Jetson is the platform for advanced AI embedded systems that are driving autonomous systems and other advanced inference platforms. There are six product series of embedded systems on modules (SoMs) in the Jetson portfolio of products.

Jetson AGX Orin Series

This series of System on modules (SoM) was designed for the developer of energy-efficient autonomous machines utilizing AI. Up to 8X the performance of the last generation, 275 TOPS for multiple concurrent AI inference pipelines. There is high-speed interface support for a multitude of sensor arrays, which makes this board ideal for applications from manufacturing to logistics, and retail as well as healthcare.

The Jetson AGX Orin comes in 32GB and 64GB modules with availability in July and October 2022 respectively. For those who want to get a jump on designing with the AGX Orin, there is a Jetson AGX Orin Developer Kit, available now.

Jetson Orin NX Series

This SoM is the smallest possible form factor and the most power-efficient with the most powerful compute capability for the size. Built for AI in autonomous machines. The Jetson Orin NX delivers 5X the performance and twice the CUDA cores of the NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX. There is high-speed interface support for a variety of sensor arrays. With 100 TOPS for many concurrent AI inference pipelines. The SoM delivers great performance in a small package.

The Jetson Orin NX comes in 16GB and 8GB models delivering in September and December of 2022, respectively. The Jetson Orin NX developer kit is available for purchase now.

Jetson AGGX Xavier Series

The AGX Xavier is designed specifically for autonomous machines. It is compact power-efficient and in has hardware acceleration for the entire AI pipeline. There is a large number of I/Os, so it allows developers to bring AI applications directly to the edge. The Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial supports industrial applications and safety certifications, through extended temperature range, shock and vibration specifications, and functional safety ability.

Jetson Xavier NX Series

The Xavier NX delivers up to 21 TOPs of hardware accelerated AI computing at the edge, in a small form factor module. It can run multiple current neural networks in parallel and process data from multiple high-resolution sensor arrays. That type of capability is a requirement for full AI system design. The Jetson Xavier NX is available and supports all popular AI frameworks.

Jetson TX2 Series

The latest Jetson TX2 family of embedded modules provides up to 2.5X the performance of Jetson Nano and a low-power of 7.5W. The Jetson TX2 NX has a pin and form factor compatibility with the Jetson Nano, while the TX2, TX2 4GB, and the TX2i all share the original TX2 form factor. The TX2 series is designed for many applications including uses in industrial and medical equipment.

Jetson Nano

This small AI computer is the performance and power efficiency to run a multitude of AI workflows. It can run multiple neural networks, and process parallel data from high-resolution sensor arrays simultaneously. This entry-level product is perfect for adding advanced AI to embedded products.
