IoTFi 2G/4G Offered as an All-In-One IoT Board Based on RP2040

Written by Stephen Vicinanza

SB Components offers a long list of computer boards based on the RP2040. The latest board is the IoTFi, an all-in-one IoT board based on the RP2040.

The IoTFi comes in a 2G or 4G version, each with a host of features, including GPS and Wi-Fi ESP32 to enhance wireless communication for IoT devices.

The board features a 1.14” LCD display and SIM 868 and SIM 7600G, an Accelerometer, Bluetooth 2.0, Micro SIM slot, and SD Card slot, which are big features in such a tiny form factor.

The IoTFi is capable of calling and transmitting messages to any type of device, that accepts messages.  For coding, it can support many programming languages, some of the most popular languages are Arduino, Python, and C/C++. This encourages a great width and breadth of development, to work any way your programming wants.

The SIM 868 (2G) module is a Quad-Band GSM/GPRS module, that combines GNSS (GPS/GLONASS/BDS) technology for satellite navigation. There are a number of interfaces along with a strong extension capability. The interfaces include UART, USB2.0, GPIO, and more.

There is abundant software functionality, including DTMF, MMS, and MUX. The SIM 868 is a low power consumption component and has embedded TCP/UDP protocols. There is the multi-constellation GNSS, made up of support for GPS, GLONASS, and BeiDou. The frequency bands supported by the module are 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz

The SIM 7600G (3G and 4G) module is a multi-band LTE-FDD, LTE-TDD, HSPA+ along with GSM, GPRS, and EDGE functionality. The module is an SMT type supporting LTE CAT1 up to 10Mbps data transfer. In addition to its wireless capability, it has a strong extension capability with interfaces that are substantial including UART, USB2.0, and GPIO. The module is flexible with ease of integration for IoT applications in the wireless spectrum.

The SIM 7600G also has features including an LCC+LGA package, downlink up to 10Mbps, and an uplink up to 5Mbps, and AT commands that are compatible with the SIM7500, and SIM7600 series modules.

The application focus of the IoTFi can include a cell phone system, retrieve GPS coordinates, navigation system function, integration for security, vehicle tracking device, home automation, and a variety of other uses.

The IoTFi comes with GSM and GPS antenna with a frequency of 1GHz up to 16GHz, and IPEX/U.FL connector for the antenna to connect to a communication device and  3.5mm audio jacks. A USB Type-C connector for both power and data transfer on a single cable.

The IoTFi 2G/4G datasheet is listed on Kickstarter and the discount price is £45 or more with some perks. MSRP is £55.
