Power. You can’t have an embedded system without it. What else is there to say? And I don’t need to tell you about the importance of AC-DC power supplies. So I suppose we could leave it at that. Only, as technology continues to evolve, so does its energy needs—more power, or more efficiency, or smaller form factor power supplies, or more rugged power supplies, or all the above. And this means that there is no shortage of demand for manufacturers to continuously roll out new and improved AC-DC power supplies. Hence, this month’s gallery.

This month we bring units touting high power density, cost-effective solutions, low profiles or compact sizes, and an ever-widening operating temperature range.

We have devices geared toward industrial, medical, and household settings. Familiar names grace this gallery’s pages, as do some lesser known (to myself) companies. Indeed, however humble this category of devices might seem when compared to the slickest new SoMs or AIoT technologies, manufacturers have not lost sight of the central importance of quality AC-DC power supplies that keep up with the ever-accelerating demands of the embedded systems industry.

Necessarily, nine products cannot hope to capture everything available today. But this month’s selections will hopefully give you a sense of the options you have when selecting a power supply unit for your next project.
